Hurricane Ian

We are continuing to monitor Hurricane Ian, which made landfall in Florida this afternoon. As Ian crosses over the Florida , it is expected to skirt the Atlantic Ocean and make landfall again between Savannah and Charleston in the early morning hours of Friday, September 30 as a Tropical Storm (39-73 mph sustained winds). Although landfall for South Carolina is expected on Friday, the Midlands region will begin to see rain showers during the late evening hours Thursday, September 29, which will result in possibly up to 5-6 inches of rain continuing into Friday afternoon.

As of 3pm, Governor McMaster has declared a state of emergency for South Carolina; however, he is only doing so to make it easier for the state to request assistance from the Federal Government, if necessary. We do not anticipate weather conditions to affect our ability to provide quality healthcare services and we encourage staff to plan accordingly while traveling on roadways so that you may navigate safely through deteriorating conditions and possible road hazards. Please see the attached guide for additional hurricane preparedness tips.

Lastly, we recommend you follow your favorite meteorologist for all the latest weather updates. Moreover, we encourage everyone to register for local emergency alerts through the state’s emergency notification system, CodeRed. This is a free service that will provide notifications when a major disaster is imminent or has just occurred.
